How do I visualize “access, safety, and equity of our beautiful Downtown area”?
San José Downtown Transportation Plan Logo Contest
At first, I started with typical signifiers of transportation such as vehicles and arrows. I then remembered Downtown San José’s most popular area was San Pedro Square, filled with restaurants, bars, and spaces for community events. I decided this would be the perfect inspiration for the logo as it was the perfect place where foot traffic and city transportation intersects.

Combining Downtown and Transportation
I submitted a series of logos that ranged from a basic logo to more complex logo. I thought this would allow the branding to be dynamic, adaptable, and expansive.
Collaborating with the Committee
After being chosen as the winning logo, the committee requested that the transportation icons be traveling together on one line to create unity. They also requested to add the letters "SJ" to represent San José, and change the colors to match the City of San José website.
Becoming Part of the Plan
This logo is now used to embody and promote the City of San Jose's efforts to make transportation more accessible and equitable.
